Overview
The objective was to create a professional and visually appealing website in Squarespace for a small business that provides education and partnerships to groups to improve their collaboration.
The previous website did not follow design best practices and did not communicate the mission visually. The new website needed to include a services and courses page, a downloads page, an online store, a blog section, and an about page, all while being easy to manage and update.
Site Construction & Map
Using the drag-and-drop editor, the website was constructed to fit the brand’s aesthetic. This included crafting an accessible color palette, finding a complimentary font pairing, and utilizing the mood board photos.
The site navigation was reworked to be easily consumable so that users can find necessary information efficiently while still having the pertinent information displayed across the pages on the site.
Content Addition & Optimization
Content for each page was added. This included high-quality images, detailed descriptions, and engaging blog posts.
The online courses store was set up by adding product listings, setting prices, and configuring payment options. Squarespace supports various payment methods, making it convenient for both the company and clients.
The template automatically adjusted for mobile devices, but additional tweaks ensured the site looked perfect on all screen sizes.
Challenges
While Squarespace is user-friendly, there was a slight learning curve, especially for someone with minimal website-building experience.
The short timeline to both design and build a website from scratch when the content and vision for the company weren't fully aligned presented some difficulty. However, it allowed for a consistent reassessment of the project scope and consideration for future iterations.
Advantages
The intuitive interface made it easy to build and update the website without needing extensive technical knowledge.
The clients provided quick and insightful feedback throughout the process so that the design of the website matched what the mission of the company wanted to communicate visually.
Results & Conclusion
The website was successfully launched within three weeks. The company experienced an increase in online sales and received positive feedback from customers about the website’s design and ease of use. The blog helped in engaging customers and driving traffic to the site.
Having a website designed and built using Squarespace proved to be an effective solution for the small business and me. It offered a balance between ease of use and advanced features, making it possible to create a professional online presence that showcased the mission and vision of the company.
Update
Currently starting a rework of the navigation to match the changing business model.
